When a puppy comes in for grooming for the very first time at Posh Paws, we introduce her to grooming gradually. We do this to ensure that her grooming experience is positive and that it is not associated with pain, fear or too much discomfort.
When a puppy visits our salon for the first time, we do not groom her immediately. Instead we offer the owner a puppy package.
Our puppy package consists of four sessions spread over eight weeks.
Session one: The puppy comes to the salon and gets a full bath, a blow dry and a brush out. Many times, I use the High Velocity (HV) dryer on a very low setting to help her acclimate to the drying process. We may also give her a sanitary trim, clean her ears and trim her nails. It all depends on how much she will tolerate during the first visit.
Session Two: This session is normally brief and it includes a brush out and a quick canine massage. Giving a puppy canine massage helps her relax and bond with the groomer.
Session Three: The puppy will come in again for a brush out and a quick canine massage.
Session Four: By the fourth session, the puppy is already accustomed to the groomer, the facility as well as to some of the grooming processes. She will get a full groom which includes a haircut.
Of course, we can accommodate requests such as bathing in between sessions.
